The Club derives its name from the beautiful lakes situated in Ballygunge area at the southern part of the metropolitan city of Kolkata, the State Capital of West Bengal; in India.  RABINDRA relates to the Nobel laureate poet of Bengal, Rabindranath Tagore, of whom we shall remain proud for ever, and SAROBAR means lakes in Bengali the state language.

As our Club name implies we are located in the same area, and hold our Regular Weekly Meetings at The Calcutta Rowing Club, at Rabindra Sarobar. We are a member club of Zone XIX of Rotary International District 3290.

The club was formed on 2nd February, ‘ 93 with 52 members. The club received its charter on 19th February 1993 when 20 more members were inducted. Over the last 14 years however some members formed other clubs and our membership stabilized at 33.  The classification profile covers medical practitioners, technical professionals, educational services, advertising,  marketing , manufacturing, jewelers, real estate developers, legal practice, business accounting, and many more.

True to the spirit of ROTARY all our members firmly believe in SERVICE ABOVE SELF and actively participate in various Service Projects of the Club with the involvement of RCCs sponsored by the Club. We also enjoy ROTARY through frequent family day celebrations held 8 times in each year. We are well appreciated for the FELLOWSHIP we have in our Club. We have excellent LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PLANS in our club & encourage new members to take positions in our Club Committees, to serve ROTARY.  Many of our Past Presidents have been invited to the RI District 3290 committees and have served the District with exemplary performance.  We have10 Paul Harris Fellows & 7 Rotary Foundation Sustained Members amongst us. We do have a Trust formed by the early members of the Club to receive donations for supporting humanitarian service projects conducted by the Club. We enthusiastically participate in various Programs of District 3290, and have successfully played the Role of Host Club in important District Events like Membership Development Program (1994), District Assembly (2003-4), Vocational Awards Ceremony(2006-7).

We are deeply interested to involve ourselves in the Global Community of Rotary by participating in World Community Service projects of Rotary International.  The "Activities" page of this site elaborates our involvement in the Avenues of Service.
